Every so often a news story pops up that we think "well, that's worth writing about". And here's one. This car has to be one of the meanest, coolest looking rally raid cars ever. A group of three desert racers have announced they will be building a rally raid Range Rover Evoque for entry into the 2013 Dakar rally.
The Dakar rally is one of the most gruelling races on the planet. It takes competitors over some of the roughest terrain possible, at blistering speeds, sometimes covering upto 500 miles a day. Couple that with the heat and fatigue, and relentless doesn't really begin to describe it. In fact, the team behind a Long Way Down (and round) produced a series on the Dakar, appropriately named 'Race to Dakar'.
Vehicles built for the race have to be out right monsters. And so, it's very pleasing to see a British team build a rally-raid Evoque. The result is just fantastic!
Under the bonnet sits a 275HP BMW N57 Diesel engine, a 3 litre power plant. The car has a 6 speed ZF box and a two speed transfer. At the corners sit some fantastic looking Rally Raid wheels made by Compomotive and the Evoque has 8 dampers. With an over-sized fuel tank to cover the extended stages. Three rally raid Evoques exist. The specs are quite serious, and the team look the business. We can't wait to see more pictures and video of the cars in the flesh.
