When it comes to buying tools, we look for 3 things:
- Good quality
- Safe
- Value for money
Draper are a company that combine each of those criteria into every product they make. Their product line-up is first class. When we needed a set of new axle stands, it was only natural to turn to the Draper range, purchasing part number #54721. Here's our review of these excellent stands.
Specs
- Made from hardened and tempered steel
- Capacity: 2000KG each (4000kg per pair)
- Manufactured to BS AU 223 specifications
- 1 year manufacturers guarantee
- Lifting range: 145-490 mm
The stands are very well packaged. Each piece is individually wrapped to protect it further, a nice touch!
Removing the stands from their packaging, you can literally see the excellent build quality. The pins push through without snagging, the stand moves up and down very easily, no effort needed. Draper build their items to a very good level of tolerance and that's immediately obvious.
These stands are made of a hardened and tempered carbon steel. The pin too is made of hardened steel. Draper then apply a tough, blue powder coating. Axle stands get scraped and scratched, it goes with the job they have to do, but these should stay rust free for a fair while thanks to a rugged finish and good quality materials.
The hardened steel pin is firmly attached to the base with a chain and link. These can also be used to help remove it as needed.
Picking stands from a known brand with extra weight capacity than you'll need gives extra safety. Don't cut corners when it come's to your wellbeing.
Axle stands are a must buy for any home mechanic and these particular ones are more than up to the job.

Verdict
We cannot fault these stands at all, they are spot-on in every way and are well suited to the rigours of the home mechanic or professional alike. Picking up a set of branded, over-engineered axle stands is a must for any Land Rover owner, they'll make hundreds of jobs so much easier. We use quite a few 'Expert' line products and we've been very pleased with each one. Well recommended by us here at FunRover, with a rating of 5 stars overall.
